The River

The River

(singing)

Shall we gather at the river

The beautiful, the beautiful river

gather with the saints at the river

that flows by the Throne of God

and all my friends are at the river

all my old dead friends

who I miss so much

and they’re waving to me, across the river

they got there and they’re waiting for me

I only have to go a little bit further

and then I’ll be dancing and singing

and I won’t struggle and I won’t curse

I’ll be gathering with the saints at the river

just like the song says

and we’ll all be happy and joyous

and we won’t be sad or mad or discriminated against

and there won’t be no rich or poor

and all the poets will be there

speaking in tongues

and we will all understand them

(singing)

and freedom is coming, freedom is coming

freedom is coming, freedom is coming

and we all shout:

oh yes I know

oh yes I know

oh yes I know

oh yes I know

freedom is coming!

and then I wake up.
